Beginning with something we could share
For this outreach, we gathered food and bottled water to bring to people in Houston. The goal was practical: offer something to eat and drink, along with time and encouragement. We began with what we could bring and a willingness to spend time with the people we met.
The preparation meant gathering food and water, loading the truck, and getting ready to hand it out. Once we arrived, we served from the back of the truck as people came over. The supplies gave us something useful to offer and a reason to stop and spend time together.
Getting to know the people we met
As people came over, we shared food, passed out water, and talked. The conversations gave us a chance to listen and get to know the people standing beside us. We wanted to approach each person with patience and respect, allowing room for them to speak and take part in the exchange.
Those conversations matter to us. The people we meet have experiences, concerns, and lives that reach far beyond a brief visit. We want to make time to hear what they choose to share and treat them with the same attention we would want for ourselves.
Putting our faith into practice
We follow Jesus, and we want His love to show through our actions. On this day, that meant gathering supplies, sharing a meal, offering water, and being present with our neighbors. Our hope was that the care behind those actions would be felt in the way each person was treated.
This outreach reflects the purpose we want to carry into the work ahead: meet practical needs, make time for people, and serve with love. We want to keep learning from the people we meet and keep finding ways to care for our community here in Houston.
