Preparing a meal from scratch
This outreach began with a grocery run. We picked up chicken, rice, tortillas, and the other ingredients and supplies needed to prepare burritos. Our goal was to cook a meal we could share with people in need, giving care to the preparation as well as the time we would spend serving.
With the supplies gathered, we set up a table and griddle outdoors and got to work. The video follows the chicken cooking, the rice being mixed in, and the tortillas being filled and folded. Each step was part of bringing the meal together, ready to hand to the neighbors who joined us.
Around the table as evening came
As daylight faded, we kept preparing burritos and handing out food. People gathered near the table and truck, and the work of serving continued into the evening. We wanted anyone stopping by to be welcomed with a meal and treated with patience and respect.
There was time for conversation alongside the cooking and serving. The footage captures people greeting one another, holding their plates, and sharing a smile. Those moments matter to us because they are part of getting to know our neighbors. We hope each visit gives us another chance to listen and build a relationship.
Sharing our faith through care
We also took a moment to join hands and pray together around the food table. Prayer is part of our life as followers of Jesus, and we were grateful to share that moment with the people who chose to join us. Food and kindness are offered to our neighbors whether or not they share our faith.
The purpose of this outreach was to offer a meal, encouragement, and our time. We want the love of Christ to show in how we prepare the food and how we treat the person receiving it. From gathering ingredients to handing out food, that is the intention we want to carry into every outreach.
